You Asked for It was an early television show, running from 1950 to 1959. Created and hosted by veteran radio announcer Art Baker, the show's title (renamed from the less expressive The Art Baker Show in 1951) indicated the premise: viewers sent in postcards with requests, ranging from a desire to see celebrities reunited to a tour of Fort Knox, to viewing film clips of unusual events or disasters. People with odd hobbies or traits (such as a man with a beard full of bees) appeared, or one million dollars in single bills, anything audiences wouldn't normally expect to see.
It reached the point where the show was joked about on The Jack Benny Program: Jack has actually given manservant Rochester a large check for Christmas, but he can't cash it yet. "Me and the check are appearing on You Asked for It."
The series had several revivals (most of shorter lengths), including syndicated versions in the 1970s and 1980s (the latter hosted by Rich Little) and a 1999 NBC version.
