Zack is the six-year-old son of Gary in the 1987 pilot Puppetman.
Normally living with his mother, Gary's ex-wife Beth, in Chicago, Zack is sent to stay with his father in Madison, Wisconsin when Beth auditions for a new musical. He is initially apprehensive about this change, believing his father doesn't want him around due to his busy schedule working on Dragon Time. When Gary (through Candle) lets him know that he does indeed want Zack to stay with him, he happily agrees to the arrangement.
Despite not living with his father, Zack is familiar with Dragon Time's characters, immediately recognizing Earl, Butane, and Candle upon seeing the puppets. He also knows his father's friend Del Zivic, happily greeting him and calling him "Uncle Del."
