Zebras are African equines with distinctive black-and-white striped coats.
Edi the Zebra is one of the stars of Animal Jam. She features bright pink-and-yellow stripes instead of the traditional black-and-white.
Randall the Zebra appeared as a featured guest in episode 107 of The Animal Show; and reappeared in episodes 304 and 326 of the show as well.
On Muppets Tonight the puppet from The Animal Show appeared as a generic zebra in the opening titles, in the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" (episode 103), where he was performed by Bill Barretta, and as the Ice Station Zebra (episode 203), where he was performed by Jerry Nelson.
The Animal Show zebra puppet also resurfaced in the Bear in the Big Blue House episode "Raiders of the Lost Cheese" and on Sesame Street, backing Jill Scott on "We Are All Earthlings", where his realistic eyes were replaced with more traditional Muppet Eyes, and a Letter of the Day segment in Episode 4274.
A different zebra Muppet had previously appeared on Sesame Street in the "ZZ Blues" music video, floating behind the band as they sing. (First: Episode 2317)
Zebras have also been featured in several live-action animal films and animated inserts on Sesame Street, often to help demonstrate a word beginning with the letter Z.
